Ski touring
in Kaprun
The Kitzsteinhorn mountain is a paradise for fans of ski touring. This sport which dates back hundreds of years involves walking up the mountain, either on or off the piste, and then skiing back down. Thanks to the high altitude it is possible to enjoy ski touring even from autumn. The two main ski touring routes in the resort (474 and 899 vertical metres respectively) enable ski tourers to walk up next to the pistes and ski down on the prepared slopes. A safe and enjoyable introduction to this booming winter sport.
More experienced ski tourers will be keen to leave the marked slopes and head into the mountains. Please make sure you have all the safety equipment required and check the avalanche risk level before setting off.
tips on how to enjoy the sport
The Maiskogel ski resort also has a number of routes for those new to the sport of ski touring. We recommend either sticking to these marked routes next to the ski slopes or, alternatively, hiring a guide if you want to head off piste. Speak to your accommodation provider or the tourism board to hire a guide.
